Your first project step by step: from an idea to a working page

The best first project is small, specific and ends with something you can open in a browser.
Step 1. Pick one thing
Good starter ideas are a business-card page, a to-do list, a simple calculator or a page with a collection of links. Avoid projects with user accounts, payments and databases, because each of these is a field of its own.
Step 2. Describe the MVP
An MVP (minimum viable product) is the smallest version that already works and lets you test an idea. Write three sentences: who will benefit from it, what it does and what the first version will not include.
Step 3. Ask for a plan, not code
Step 4. Build in small steps
After each step, open the page and check that it works. If it does, save the state of the project, as described in the text on Git for beginners. If not, fix it before you add the next thing.
Step 5. Test like a user
- Click everything that can be clicked.
- Enter empty or very long data.
- Shrink the window and check the phone version.
- Refresh the page and see what was remembered.
Step 6. Simplify and tidy up
Ask the model to explain the code and remove what is unnecessary. Understanding your own project will pay off with every later change.
Step 7. Publish
A simple static page can be put on any file hosting. Before publishing, go through the list from the text on the risks of AI-generated code: no keys in the code, no personal data, verified dependencies.
The most common traps
- Too large a scope at the start.
- No backup and no change history.
- Accepting changes "blindly", without running them.
